The Democrats can’t defend their record, so they believe they have no choice but to smear their political opponents. We saw it with the Tea Party. The Democrats had no answer for the concerns of millions of Americans about the federal government’s soaring spending and debt, so they fabricated the claim that the Tea Party is “racist.” Never mind that it made no sense–what does fiscal responsibility have to do with race, and why are some of the most popular Tea Party figures black and Hispanic?–the smear was endlessly repeated.
Now we are seeing a rerun. Just as the Democrats fabricated the claim that Tea Partiers shouted the N-word at Democratic Congressmen, they are perpetrating the myth that the Republican debate audience in Florida booed a gay serviceman. In fact, one or at most two people booed. The person who booed has not been identified, and we don’t know whether he (or they) was even a Republican. A person who was sitting nearby described what happened:
I was at the debate, in the audience on the right hand side about halfway back…. The person who booed was just a few rows in front of us. The booing got an immediate and angry reaction from nearly everyone sitting around him, who hissed and shushed at him. Lots of loud gasps, “Shhhh!” “No!” “Shut up, you idiot!” etc.
But the liberals are desperate, and they don’t care about the facts. Thus, they are perpetrating the lie that “the audience booed” the gay soldier. When it comes to dishonesty and divisiveness, no one beats Barack Obama. Predictably, he too is repeating the smear:
The most electric reaction, however, came when Obama sharply criticized the GOP presidential candidates for staying silent when audience members at a debate booed a gay soldier who asked a question about DADT.
“We don’t believe in the kind of smallness that says it’s okay for a stage full of political leaders — one of whom could end up being the president of the United States — being silent when an American soldier is booed. We don’t believe in that,” said Obama to loud cheers and a standing ovation.
“We don’t believe in standing silent when that happens. We don’t believe in them being silent since. You want to be commander in chief? You can start by standing up for the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States, even when it’s not politically convenient.
Well, anything beats running on his record. At Gay Patriot, Dan Blatt notes that when it comes to standing up against outrageous slurs directed against our men and women in uniform, Obama has no standing to criticize:
Perhaps if he considered the standard he has set by claiming that “we don’t believe in standing silent” in the face of such boorish behavior, he might realize how, in a world with balanced media, he might be held to account for his own silence when his political allies attacked Republicans. Guess that before he took office, he felt General David Petraeus betrayed us.
We can expect much more of this kind of thing in the months to come.
