Rolling Stone’s Rape Fantasies

The artist Sabo created this parody Rolling Stone cover that blasts both the magazine and fellow tale-spinner Lena Dunham:

As with other Sabo works, it shows up on posters in Los Angeles:

Some, including Hot Air’s AllahPundit, are taking seriously the anonymous comments by one or two alleged friends of “Jackie,” the anonymous source for the Rolling Stone article, to the effect that they think “something” happened to “Jackie,” albeit not what Rolling Stone reported. This strikes me as a mistake. When you start publishing anonymous comments on an anonymous report that failed to withstand the most elementary scrutiny, you are not reporting, you are repeating rumors.

If there really is an epidemic of rape at the University of Virginia, it shouldn’t be too difficult to come up with just one case that is vouched for by a real, identifiable human being, preferably in the form of a police report and preferably not years after the alleged event. Of course, we do know about one U Va student who was a rape victim–Hannah Graham, who was not just raped but murdered, only three months ago. Yet, for some reason, her case is of no interest to Rolling Stone. One wonders why.
