A Slow-Motion War [Updated Again]

War has broken out between Iran and Israel, with Iran for the first time launching attacks against Israeli soil. By the time you read this, the situation likely will have changed. But for now, according to the frequently-updated Times of Israel, Iran has launched more than 100 unmanned drones toward Israel proper.

Those drones will take some hours to reach Israel, and in the meantime the Iron Dome system and the IAF are intercepting them and shooting them down. Iran claims to have launched ballistic missiles, which would reach Israel in minutes rather than hours, but that claim apparently is false, since no such missiles have arrived as of this writing.

In my view, these facts, if correct, are the most positive news so far:

Channel 12 said the US was the first to identify the launch and immediately notified Israel, leading to a flurry of activity in recent hours in Israel and its surroundings that led to widespread public assessment that an attack was imminent.

And:

Channel 12 news reported US and British warplanes have downed some Iranian drones over the Iraq-Syria border area, without citing sources.

If American and British planes are actually helping to destroy Iranian drones, that is a good thing. Maybe the fundamentals of common interests are, at least to that degree, overriding the imperative for Joe Biden to carry Michigan.

So far, I have seen no indication of the Iranian attack doing serious damage. But of course the attack is in its infancy. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Now it is confirmed that Iran has fired missiles at Israel, although I haven’t seen any reports of damage. And the fact that American and UK fighters are in action is also confirmed:

The US military has shot down Iranian drone aircraft headed toward Israel on Saturday, three US officials say, without disclosing how many drones were shot down or the precise locations.

And:

British Royal Air Force jets in the Middle East “will intercept any airborne attacks within range of our existing missions, as required” after Iran targeted Israel with drones and missiles, the country’s Ministry of Defense says.

MORE: A PL commenter asks a good question:

How many of Iran’s missiles and drones are paid for with the billions of dollars the “Biden Administration” has made available to Iran?

We can go back to the weirdly pro-Iran Obama administration, as well.

THIS IS INTERESTING, via InstaPundit:

Maybe premature, but that does seem to be how it is shaping up. Meanwhile, we should look to our own defenses by canceling, I don’t know, a trillion dollars in “social” spending and putting it to national defense.
