President Biden has taken to asserting on more than one occasion that inflation stood at 9 percent when he took office. The statement sems to call for a follow-up question on the source of his misinformation, as they put in the Censorship Industrial Complex that he heads. But no, we have been left hanging.
Students of ancient history may recall that inflation rate was actually 1.4 percent when Biden took office in January 2021. It didn’t reach 9 percent until June 2022. Biden appears not to recall who was president at the time. He’s vague about that.
Referring to the hero’s supposed cocaine addiction, Nicholas Meyer titled his first Sherlock Holmes pastiche The Seven-Per-Cent Solution. Biden appeared to have someone’s 7 percent mojo working as recently as his State of the Union Address. I’m thinking his handlers have titrated the optimal solution to 9 percent for the coming debates with President Trump, assuming they do in fact come.
Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto followed up with the Biden Council of Economic Advisers chairman Jared Bernstein. Bernstein’s expertise appears to lie more in the area of social work than economics. Maybe that bears on Biden’s vagaries in the foggy ruins of time. Cavuto persistently queried Bernstein why Biden persists. As one might have guessed, despite his best efforts, Cavuto did not get a straight answer.
