No wonder Kamala is so fond of saying “unburdened by what has been,” for example, her own record. A burden indeed. I doubt the Trump campaign needs this pointed out, but they should move quickly to define Harris in the public mind by highlighting her previous policy positions this week, before she tries to stake out new “moderate” ground as leftwing Democrats always do. You know the media won’t do this, unless they are forced to. Set her up either as the leftist she is, or as a flip-flopper when she tries to move to the middle.
In other words, dust off the playbook George H.W. Bush used effectively against Michael Dukakis in 1988. Remember Dukakis tried to set up that election as being about “competence, not ideology”? That was a clear giveaway that Dukakis wanted to disguise the fact that behind his technocratic facade was a far-left liberal. Harris is sure to attempt Dukakis 2.0, likely starting this week. (Bonus points if the Trump campaign can perform a Jedi mind trick and get Harris to ride in a tank, or sit in a fighter jet or something. . .)
National Review‘s Jim Geraghty reminds us:
“Harris’s presidential campaign ran into trouble in part because of flip-flopping on big issues — abolishing ICE, sanctuary cities, Medicare for All, independent probes of police shootings, banning fracking. Flip-flopping on issues is ultimately a reflection of a political leader who isn’t entirely certain what he or she wants.”
And our friends at Americans for Tax Reform have compiled a greatest hits list of Kamala’s past positions, with receipts in the video below:
- In your plan, eventually, everyone would be taken off the private plan that their company currently has? “Yes.”
- “There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking.”
- Do you ban plastic straws? “I think we should. Yes.”
- “I am prepared to get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal.”
- “On day one, we’re going to repeal that tax bill.”
- “We’ve got to increase the corporate tax rate.”
- “Estate taxes are going to have to go up.”
- “There will also be a carbon fee.”
- “So I decided I was going to start prosecuting parents for truancy.”
