Ammo Grrrll poses the perfectly reasonable question: How DARE You?! She writes:
I think one of the most bizarre aspects of the DNC convention – I was only able to tolerate brief clips of that Joy-orama – was tasking the Walz Attack Weirdo with the insane job of making FUN of the fact that J.D. Vance went to Yale! I am not easily shocked any more, but that approach did it. What the [heck]???!!
Seriously, whose brilliant idea was it actually to mock and denigrate the incredible American success story of a “less fortunate” brainiac who was able to rise above his circumstances? And then it hit me!
He was unworthy not only because he didn’t come from an entitled oppressed race. That was only the beginning. He was unworthy because he accomplished what he did from genetics. His mother, despite her reduced circumstances, addiction issues, and poor taste in men, had come second in her graduating class. She was SMART. The intellectual mediocrities that make up our current Elites HATE “smart.” And he also succeeded from sheer effort of will and discipline. Not to mention EXCELLENT taste in a girlfriend who became a wife!
But the Silver Spoon Crowd HATES individual effort as well. J. D. Vance is anathema because he did it all without the beneficent and condescending help of the Savior Class. And because he didn’t NEED Affirmative Action. He didn’t need DEI – he really DID Earn It. And we can’t have that.
In America we cling to the notion that there really is no such thing as “class,” except that we are all “middle” class. Perhaps back in the day that was even mostly true. In the little town I grew up in, everybody was more or less “middle class,” some lower middle, some upper middle. And a few outliers on either end. But that didn’t mean that there was no room for pretentious people.
Once Freshman year of High School a group of us young ladies were hired to serve a banquet at the local Country Club. As it happened, I was assigned to help set the long banquet tables. First, we did the plates and the silverware and I had the same issues as J.D. Vance in the movie Hillbilly Elegy with the multiple forks. But I just watched and did what others were doing. So far, so good. But then — and you don’t forget this kind of thing even in 64 years – I was told to fold the linen napkins. At home, unless it was a company meal, we used cheap paper napkins and I folded them into a triangle. So I did that with the linen napkins and was promptly told by a doctor’s snotty wife: “We don’t fold napkins like that – HERE!”
It seemed to that 14-year old girl who was me then that her idea was not to instruct, but to embarrass. To point out that I was not really good enough even to fold napkins since I didn’t know how to do a complicated fold which made the darn thing stand on end. I can still feel myself blush right down to my shoes. And I also felt angry because it felt like an attack on my beloved family as well. And so, on a small scale, it was. We were The Triangle Napkin Folks, and we were found wanting.
The Democrat Elites have nothing but contempt for the mores, the religion, the culture of the less-than-elite. Even though (or because) many of the people they are humiliating are much smarter and more talented than they are. (John Kerry, call your office…)
Which puts me in mind of one of my favorite jokes: a snooty East Coast lady is vacationing in Biloxi in a waterfront resort. She goes to a little breakfast cafe and a friendly young waitress with a nametag of “Dottie Sue” brings her a menu and asks her, “Where y’all from?” And the woman replies, “Well, where I am from we don’t end a sentence with a preposition.” And Dottie says, “Okay. Where y’all from, [witch]?” (Of course, the REAL Dottie Sue would never say such a thing because Southerners have manners.)
The other night we watched a most amusing older movie called Central Intelligence with The Rock and Kevin Hart. At one point in the movie where The Rock kicks some righteous butt, he says, “I HATE bullies.” Well, #MeToo. Especially those who love to humiliate others in public.
That’s one reason that the Elite keep changing the names of things so that the normies can never keep up. Don’t worry, it will come for you, too. Perfectly well-intentioned people, South and North, have over the decades called black people Colored, Negro, African-American, Black and here we are come full circle back to Colored, though it is put in a shiny new package as “People OF Color.” And if you get it wrong, you will be called a racist. Don’t even get me started on the nonsense with pronouns.
MY people – my grandparents’ generation – on one side owned a tiny café and on the other side were sharecroppers and, when they were evicted from the farm in the Depression, raised pigs IN TOWN. To mother’s recollection the saintly Budahl family next door never once complained about pigs within smelling distance. Man! I got a letter from the HOA when I had a little wooden donkey pulling a cart in my front yard! Apparently, there was no HOA in Astoria, South Dakota in 1933. Because I’m pretty sure a pigpen would have been a violation!
Those dear people, all of whom I got to meet, raised upwardly mobile daughters – one who married a very prosperous veterinarian, and my mother, who married a future pharmacist who would eventually own his own business. Both men, it almost goes without saying, were World War II vets.
I was raised in a 1500 sq. ft. home that housed five people. It featured one bathroom, one telephone, and one television that got one channel. All unthinkable hardships by today’s standards and yet we were solid middle class…movin’ on up! It was a happy life.
When Joe and I first got married, for a time we worked at becoming DOWNWARDLY mobile and succeeded quite nicely. If you give all your money to a cult, work at “movement” or crummy jobs, you too can fail even with a college degree! I’ve seen us do it.
What changed? We had a baby. Children are, perhaps THE most conservatizing thing in the world, which is why the Left is determined to end procreation. NOW, you have to look for safe neighborhoods and good schools. NOW, you have to get a REAL job and if possible buy a home with a yard. NOW, you need insurance and a vehicle.
Time was that the Left claimed that every terrible idea was “for the children,” but now they don’t even pretend. The New Deal: the heck with future rug rats – “WE are the ones we have been waiting for.” Any sane person with an ounce of self-awareness might say, “Gosh, I HOPE not!”
But everything is a lie. Everything. Barack Hussein Obama’s insistence that we “othered” him because he had a “funny name” was a risible lie in 2008. And at the DNC convention, he was still peddling that same old tripe. For one thing, of course, he had had MANY names as the circumstances fit him. A shape-shifter, a chameleon, he had been Barry, the Choomer, Barry Soetoro, and, when it finally benefited him, “Barack Hussein.” Kind of like the pronunciation of “Kamala’s” name, which the Internet – which is forever – has HER pronouncing several different ways. But YOU mess it up and you are a sexist AND racist.
But you know what names can be mocked? Billy Bob. Jimmy Dan. And for sure Dottie Sue. J.D. Vance DARED to veer out of his “lane.” He was supposed to die of fentanyl poisoning or cirrhosis of the liver or in a “toxic male” bar fight. Instead, he joined the Marines, went to Yale Law School, and soon, please God, he will be a heartbeat away from the presidency. Who does he think he IS, anyway? HOW DARE HE?
