Is Trump’s Lawyer a Democratic Plant?

Today Mike Davis, one of Donald Trump’s lawyers, gave an interview in which he insulted and threatened Letitia James, the Attorney General of New York. When I first saw this, I couldn’t believe it was real:

For those who prefer it in writing:

[Trump lawyer Mike] Davis joined The Benny Show on Thursday and told conservative commentator and YouTuber Benny Johnson that he dares James to “continue your lawfare against President Trump.” In 2018, James campaigned to “take on” then-President Donald Trump, and in February, she won a civil fraud case against Trump and top Trump Organization executives.

“Let me just say this to Big Tish James, the New York Attorney General, I dare you to try to continue your lawfare against President Trump in his second term,” Davis said. “Listen here, sweetheart, we’re not messing around this time, and we will put your fata** in prison for conspiracy against rights. I promise you.”

This was an amazingly stupid thing to do, although, to be fair, Davis wasn’t threatening to retaliate against James for anything she has already done, but rather warning her not to engage in lawfare during Trump’s second term. This was dumb because:

1) There is zero chance–zero–of James being charged with, let alone imprisoned for, “conspiracy against rights” on any scenario.

2) It is dumb to make a threat that you can’t follow up on. This ridiculous tirade will only enhance James’s standing with liberals and moderates.

3) Davis’s “fat ass” insults were childish by the standards of a seventh-grade schoolyard, and utterly demeaning for a President-elect.

4) The Democrats claimed that if Trump won the election, he would use illegitimate means to seek revenge against his political opponents. I regarded this as a deranged fantasy, but in one stroke, Davis has validated it. Even though the Trump administration will not, in fact, seek criminal charges against James for “conspiracy against rights” or anything else.

One of Donald Trump’s faults is that he has terrible taste in lawyers. Mike Davis is, surprisingly based on today’s interview and other outbursts, not a complete nobody. Davis needs to do a much better job, and Trump needs to either rein him in or fire him. The last thing Trump needs is to go out of his way to lend credibility to the Democrats’ ridiculous caricature of him as a would-be dictator.
