The FBI Is On the Case [Updated]

In times like these, it is important that Americans have confidence in our federal law enforcement agencies. Unfortunately, the leadership of the FBI has squandered that public trust over a period of years, and now we are seeing the consequences.

Shamsud Din Jabbar was from Houston, and within hours after his murderous attack in New Orleans, the FBI was conducting an operation in Houston that they said was “related to this morning’s New Orleans attack.” It could, of course, be coincidence, but the FBI operation took place within a few hundred yards of the Masjid Bilal Islamic Center.

Many will wonder whether Jabbar was a “known wolf,” and whether the Houston operation related to a group of Islamic radicals that were already on the FBI’s radar, as it is so often put. Of course, that may not be true: we don’t yet know exactly what the FBI was doing in Houston, and they may have discovered links to other radicals after Jabbar’s Bourbon Street attack.

Senator John Kennedy implicitly addressed the widespread lack of confidence in the FBI in a New Orleans press conference:

“There’s a lot of information going around. Some of it is actually true. Some of it isn’t,” Kennedy said at a press conference with law enforcement Wednesday afternoon.

“Here’s what I want to ask from the federal government: Catch these people and then tell the American people the truth. Now, I don’t want you to tell us yet anything is going to interfere with the investigation. And there are things that I’ve been told that I think are true that I’m not sharing with you today because it could interfere with their investigation,” he went on.

“But after we get to the bottom of this, they need to tell the American people the truth, and the people in New Orleans the truth, and the people of America the truth.”

Kennedy also warned: “I will promise you this: I will, when it is appropriate in this investigation is complete, you will find out what happened and who was responsible, or I will raise fresh hell and I will chase those in the federal government who are responsible for telling us what happened like they stole Christmas.”

My point here is not to prejudge anything, but simply to note how unfortunate it is that, in the wake of a terrorist attack, and what could be multiple attacks, many Americans–probably most–have little faith in the integrity or competence of the FBI.

Kash Patel has his work cut out for him.

UPDATE: This is minor compared to the Russia collusion hoax, but it is typical of the culture that most Americans have lost confidence in:
