Watching Tucker Carlson and Piers Morgan argue is like the war between Iran and Iraq. As Henry Kissinger said of that war, “It’s a pity both sides can’t lose.” In the their recent conversation for Piers Morgan Uncensored, however, both can and do lose at various points (whole thing here, live from Riyadh).
If Tucker were capable of embarrassment, he would be embarrassed by the instruction he has take from the “historian” he has touted as the “best and most honest popular historian in the United States.” That would be a podcaster by the name of Darryl Cooper. In his session with Carlson this most important popular historian promoted the view that Churchill was the chief villain of World War II and Hitler a man of peace. Carlson gave his enthusiastic assent to these cracked views.
Carlson is a certified thought leader of the conservative movement, a friend of Donald Trump Jr., and a voice that cannot safetly be ignored. Now Tucker recycles Cooper’s teaching with Morgan in this form: “People want to tell me Churchill’s an incredible guy – really? Well, why didn’t he save Western civilization?” He uses scare quotes to add: “I know he helped defeat the Nazis.”
Tucker is anything but stupid, yet that is a profoundly stupid statement supported by a profoundly stupid argument. His comments are idiotic. Given Carlson’s patent intelligence, one has to wonder what is going on here. One may wonder if his manic laughter is symptomatic of something other than amusement. He appears to be in a very dark place.
As the conversation continued on Carlson’s show (whole thing here), Carlson had more — and worse. To be continued.
Tucker Carlson: "People want to tell me Churchill's an incredible guy – really? Well, why didn't he save Western civilization?"
Piers Morgan: "He did save Western civilization, he defeated the Nazis!"
