A mob of protesters turned out in South Minneapolis this morning to harass law enforcement. Someone wound up getting shot and, reportedly, killed. So far there is little information on what happened. The person who was shot was armed, but whether he was trying to murder a police officer is not yet clear.

This video shows several law enforcement personnel wrestling with the perpetrator, and ultimately one of them shoots him. You can’t see what happened before that, but I take it the perp was threatening agents with a pistol:

Tim Walz and Jacob Frey are getting people killed.

Governor Walz took to X within an hour of the shooting to describe it as “another horrific shooting” by “untrained officers.” Such a statement is utterly irresponsible at this early stage.
FURTHER UPDATE: A video from a better angle, which unfortunately can’t be embedded, is here. I have a hard time figuring out what is going on, in part because the people, similarly bundled up, are hard to tell apart. I believe the guy who winds up getting shot is the one who is blocking traffic in the video, but I am not sure about this. In any event, several law enforcement officers approach him, apparently trying to put him under arrest. He struggles with them for a while, and as they are wrestling, a shot is fired. I can’t tell from the video what gun that is–whether it is the perp’s or one of the officers’. That is followed by several shots in rapid succession, I assume all fired by one or more of the officers. For a better understanding of what happened, we will probably have to hear from the officers.
MORE: The perpetrator has been identified as Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old resident of South Minneapolis. Pretti was employed at the University of Minnesota and more recently has qualified as a nurse. He was a lawful gun owner.
More details will emerge as Pretti’s social media accounts are scoured, but it is reasonable to expect that he was a lefty who was incited by insurrectionists like Tim Walz and Jacob Frey to think it would be virtuous to try to interfere with federal law enforcement, a federal crime; to consider it reasonable to bring a gun along as he interfered with law enforcement; and to fight law enforcement officers while in possession of a pistol.
I don’t know how the conduct of the officers will ultimately be judged. But the real responsibility for Pretti’s death lies with him, and perhaps above all with left-wing politicians like Tim Walz who have deliberately incited illegal conduct for their own political gain.
