Minnesota Mao

Tim Walz is completing his second and final term as governor. When Kamala Harris chose him as her running mate in August 2024, I laid out a conventional case against him in the Wall Street Journal column “A Minnesotan sizes up Tim Walz.” Even by the conventional measures I employed, to say he is the worst governor in Minnesota history is a drastic understatement.

Walz has routinely decried President Trump’s mythical fascism like a broken record, but he gave us an authentic taste of something like the real thing. On March 25, 2020, Walz declared a state of emergencey and ruled Minnesota by decree for 15 months. He utterly reveled in his unconstrained power while he demonstrated the arbitrary, wasteful, and destructive force of one-man rule.

Even some Democrats in the legislature seemed to tire of it. On June 30, 2021, the state house and senate voted to end Walz’s dictatorial powers as part of a budget deal. Having destroyed jobs and impeded life routines including family get-togethers and church attendance, Walz finally let his one-man rule lapse without public protest on July 1, 2021.

Perhaps Walz’s infatuation with Chinese Communism is a coincidence. We will learn more when Alpha News releases the documentary Minnesota Mao this coming June 4. That’s Tim Walz they — producer Liz Collin and writer/director J.C. Chaix — are talking about. Following up on the success of The Fall of Minneapolis, Alpha News will make the documentary freely accessible on YouTube and other social media.

Alpha News covers the coming release of the documentary here. The documentary’s companion page citing sources is posted at Minnesota Mao. The documentary’s trailer is posted below.
