On the Virginia referendum

Virginia voters bought the pitch to “restore fairness” by gerrymandering their purple state into mostly Democratic congressional districts. The redistricring referendum passed by three points — 51.5 percent to 48.5 percent. That narrow vote should result in a lopsided Democrat Virginia congressional delegation. That’s what it’s all about. UPDATE: Our friend Jeff Anderson sends along this image of the absurd referendum question.

Jessica Schwalb covers yesterday’s vote for the Free Beacon here. Bill Campenni covered the then-upcoming referendum for us in “Upstaging Elbridge Gerry.”

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger told voters she had “no plans” for such a project in the course of her 2024 campaign. Having won the gubernatorial election, she had plans.

That should be a span too far, but that’s how they roll. Barack Obama supported it and now celebrates passage of the referendum in his accustomed style. This may be the single most dishonest comment on the Virginia redistricting project. If he says it, it can’t be true. My ode on an Obama burn: That is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

People can be so cruel.

One has to have a heart of stone not to laugh at this fraud. President Obama is not satisified with the damage he inflicted on the United States in his eight years as president. In this respect, as in so much else, Obama belies the honorable American tradition of presidents retiring from purely partisan politics once they leave office. For Obama the campaign never ends.
