We toggle back and forth every day. Today, the Strait of Hormuz is declared ‘closed.” From The Hill newspaper,
Iran restores ‘strict management’ of Hormuz Strait as US blockade persists.
The Twitter (X) account Visegrad 24 reports,
India is furious with Iran after IRGC gunboats fired on the Indian-flagged oil tanker The Sanmar Harald today as it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The ship was trying to transport Iraqi oil to India. India has summoned the Iranian Ambassador to protest.
What’s going on here? Commentator Richard Fernandez explains the problem with the Iranian Regime (IR),
The Indians and the Europeans are making the possible mistake of taking the IR seriously. The big solemn meeting, the elaborate signing ceremony, the giant bribe. Like JCPOA. Like the pallets of cash. Like the tollbooth. “But my name is number two on the list …”
Fernandez says that, “The Islamic Republic [of Iran] is a bad faith actor.” Even worse, this is no longer a single “Iran.” Different factions are fighting for overall control, in the meantime the scale of their humiliating military defeat cannot be revealed to the public lest a popular uprising ensue.
As a result, regarding the obviously false statements made by the regime, Fernandez observes,
Never say to yourself: this is too ridiculous to be believed, for there is nothing that cannot be dinned into a credulous observer by constant repetition. Experience has shown it works every time.
Act accordingly.
