As California Goes…

So goes, we hope to God, no other state. Currently there are two big election campaigns going on in the formerly prosperous state of California. The first is for Governor, where Democrats are aghast at the reality that Republican Steve Hilton may very well win. The Democrats’ problem is that, as so often is the case, notwithstanding their claims to overwhelming intellectual superiority, their candidates suck.

One of those bad candidates is billionaire Tom Steyer, one of the world’s greatest hypocrites, now running as a faux environmentalist and general far-leftist. Among other things, Steyer has advocated racial reparations, one of the worst policy ideas of modern times. But somehow–who could have foreseen it?–that hasn’t endeared him to his party’s criminal base:

Tom Steyer had a terrific career as a coal-fired power plant developer. He has not had, and will not ever have, a great career as a left-wing politician.

On the other end of the sanity spectrum is Spencer Pratt, running as a common-sense candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles. The fact that he is by far the best candidate in a ludicrously weak field that includes the incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, a total failure, is obvious to everyone. So show business figures are now weighing in on behalf of the failed status quo, attacking Pratt for not being a professional politician, among other sins. Are they seriously happy with how things are going in Los Angeles? I suppose if you are a movie star or a multimillionaire producer, you don’t have to deal with the reality of what has happened to Los Angeles–an instance of what is true across the United States. You can afford to be a liberal, if you are rich enough and, especially, if your money comes from government.

Like a number of other cities ruled exclusively by Democrats, Los Angeles has a horrible homeless/drug addict/mental health problem, which Democrats are inherently unable to address in any sane manner. Enter Spencer Pratt, who may be an amateur–many think that is a good thing–but who talks about the issues that matter to Angelenos in a refreshingly honest way:

It is blindingly obvious that California’s left-wing establishment is an utter failure, and that the state needs a totally different, more conservative, approach. This is why sane Californians are fleeing the state as fast as their U-Hauls can carry them.

Will things turn around this year? We can hope. But oddsmakers still consider the Democrats, with their billionaire supporters, to be the favorites to continue California’s downhill slide.
