At SPA, Matt Bauer’s lawsuit

St. Paul Academy parent Matt Bauer declined an interveiew with Star Tribune reporter Eva Herscowitz in connection with her page-one-story on the troubled reign of Luis Ottley as head of school, but his experience is at the heart of it. Ottley threatened Bauer’s children with dismissal on the eve of his older son’s high school graduation and matriculation at the Naval Academy. He actually dismissed Bauer’s younger son from enrollment in the 2026-27 school year allegedly as a result of Bauer’s opposition to the Ottley regime.

Based on my own digging, I believe that Ottley is big on shibboleths including “partnership,” “cooperation,” and “disruption.” I infer that in his case they are euphemisms for demanding submission. Readers can see as much in the Star Tribune story.

The 34-page complaint tells Bauer’s story. I have embedded it below via Scribd. Bauer has also filed a motion for a temporary injunction giving his younger son relief pending a resolution of the lawsuit. All the documents filed yesterday in Ramsey County District Court are accessible at Minnesota Court Records Online.
