Consistent with her strategy of running under a false flag, on a platform that is fictitious in so far as it exists at all, Kamala Harris has pretended to be sympathetic to gun rights. No sane person would believe that, but Kamala is saying a lot of things that no sane person would believe.
In a campaign appearance she said that she and Tim Walz are both gun owners, implying that that is something to be proud of. I can believe it as to Walz; he may well have a firearm left over from his days in Nebraska. Although, given his temper, the world would perhaps be a safer place if he didn’t. But Kamala? I don’t believe it.
Harris stayed with the theme in her bizarre interview with Oprah Winfrey. Not only does she have a gun, she is looking forward to the opportunity to blast someone with it:
It’s a classic instance of Kamala’s weirdly inappropriate laughter. But does she really own a firearm? (It would be delightful for some journalist to ask her to detail the manufacturer, caliber, barrel length and so on of her gun, but of course that won’t happen.) And is she really prepared to shoot an intruder?
Harris said her staff would clean up after her, implying that her readiness to kill an intruder is somehow impolitic. Sure enough, that happened:
Host Jake Tapper [on Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead”] played video of Harris saying that if someone “breaks into my house, they’re getting shot. Probably should not have said that. My staff will deal with that later.”
Tapper then asked [Harris-Walz Campaign Senior Adviser Keisha Lance Bottoms], “She said, perhaps I shouldn’t have said that, should she not have said that, do you think?”
Bottoms answered, “Well, she was joking. And, obviously, the Vice President has given multiple interviews and she knows that every single thing that she says will be picked apart. So, it was a joke, and she knew that we would still be talking about it today, but I think it’s important that people know that the Vice President respects the right to bear arms, that she supports the 2nd Amendment, but she wants responsible gun ownership and she wants our communities to be safe. So, it was a joke that we’re still talking about today. But, again, I think it humanizes the Vice President.”
But Kamala obviously wasn’t joking. She wanted her audience to think that she really does own a gun, and is prepared to use it in self-defense. That, I guess, is what “humanizes” her. Admittedly, she laughed hysterically, but that doesn’t mean much with Kamala. I think the laughter was meant to signal, girlishly, that she had been more candid than is politic. And how is it a “joke” to say that anyone who breaks into her home will be shot?
The incident is trivial, but it is typical of Harris’s campaign. I’m not a scary left-winger, I’m a gun owner like you! And I’m not weak, I’m tough–can’t wait to shoot an intruder! And I love the Second Amendment and don’t want to confiscate your guns! Unless of course you own a semiautomatic rifle. And so on. How can we tell when Kamala is “joking”? I suppose it’s easier to forget about jokes and ask when she is lying–that’s simple, her lips are moving.
