At a time when the Trump administration is taking actions of world-historical importance, America’s Democrats are launching the lamest attacks imaginable.
Thus, soon after President Trump’s inauguration a memo evidently went out to Democrats in the press to blame the president for the high price of eggs. It started in January, when average prices for December–prior to Trump’s inauguration!–were reported. And it has continued non-stop. The reason for the high price of eggs is obvious: supply and demand, driven by the loss of huge numbers of chickens due to avian flu. And pretty much all of the increase occurred during the Biden administration. But that hasn’t stopped Democratic Party “news” outlets from trying to blame Trump:
In the 25 days since Trump’s inauguration, CNN has mentioned “egg prices” 45 times.
But in the 25 days before the inauguration, CNN NEVER mentioned “egg prices.”
Over on MSNBC, in the 25 days since Trump’s inauguration, they mentioned “edge prices” 80 times.
But in the 25 days… pic.twitter.com/XFualFhepr

No Democrat has offered a coherent explanation of how anything Trump has done in the first month of his administration has had any effect on the price of eggs. In short, this is one of the dumbest and most contemptible political attacks of all time.
But it isn’t the dumbest and most contemptible attack in the Democrats’ current arsenal. That dubious honor goes to the Democrats’ claim that President Trump is responsible for airplane crashes. This is the kind of low-down smear that, if Republicans were doing it, would rightfully be denounced by all right-thinking people. But here we are, in the America of 2025:
No president has had more planes crash in their first month in office than Donald Trump. https://t.co/3nyRtR1xeb
— Rep. Eric Swalwell (@RepSwalwell) February 17, 2025
It turns out that there were more aircraft incidents involving injury or death during Joe Biden’s first month on the job, but of course no one blamed him, nor should they.
It isn’t just lightweights like Eric Swalwell making this disgusting claim. My law school classmate Chuck Schumer, regarded by some as a serious Democrat, if there is such a thing, joined in, blaming Trump for the incident in Toronto where a Delta jet caught fire and flipped over after landing. Schumer did not try to explain how anything Trump has done (FWIW, it isn’t true that relevant FAA staff have been cut back) could possibly have caused an incident in Canada.
Why are Democrats relying on such absurd attacks? Obviously, because they don’t have anything better:
the reason they keep hammering on this offensively stupid position — that trump, in a few weeks of governance, has somehow caused these plane crashes — is they literally have nothing else. the democrats have never been this lost in any of our lives. https://t.co/7E174vDR2r

The DNC’s new Chairman, Ken Martin, lately of the unbelievably far left Minnesota DFL party, has issued a memorandum to Democrats on how they will regain power. If anyone has a path back to sanity, it might be the DNC Chairman. But no, as this comment by a fellow liberal suggests:
This is a deeply embarrassing and useless document from the DNC Chair. https://t.co/goi6ZehnOt

You can read Martin’s memo here. It reads like a time capsule from the 1930s. It is all about unions, and alleged union-busting by the Trump administration. This might appeal to the Democrats’ core constituency, overpaid government workers. But currently, fewer than 6% of private sector employees in the U.S. are unionized, an all-time low.
So Martin is appealing to, at best, a niche constituency. His memo is all about the Trump administration’s alleged assault on “working families,” but unless those families consist of overpaid public sector employees, everything the administration is doing will help them. Which is why they voted for him.
Surely, you might say, there is more to Martin’s memo? Yes, there is. The rest of his memo is devoted to attacking the Heritage Foundation’s 2025 Project. Seriously.
If I were a Democrat, what would I say? Probably this: Sure, the things we are saying these days are stupid. But that is OK: it is just a holding action, to keep our base in line. What we are really doing is waiting for Trump to screw up. Then we will pounce.
That, I think, is the most likely assessment of where things now stand.
