The State of Minnesota is in the midst of a deep structural budget deficit, as a result of an explosion in spending over the last two years. Thus, in 2024 the state spent $4.7 billion more than it took in. As the 2025 legislative session draws to a close, our legislators are negotiating a budget agreement that will cover the next two years, and kick the structural can down the road.
The framework of a budget agreement was announced in a press conference this morning at the Capitol. The agreement sets spending targets, but leaves details to be hammered out in a special session. Apparently the one budget cut that Republicans were able to incorporate into today’s agreement is free health care for illegal aliens. That spending will not be eliminated entirely; Minnesota will still provide free health care to illegal immigrant children.
But even that was too much for left-wing Democrats. As this morning’s press conference was going on, and Governor Tim Walz was speaking, DFL Senate and House members who belong to the Progressive Caucus tried to break into the room, and chanted loudly to protest against cuts in free health care for illegals:

Is there any level of craziness to which progressive Democrats will not sink? It doesn’t seem so.
Meanwhile, the announced deal may fall apart because radical Senate Democrats may go to the wall to fight for unlimited free health care for all illegal aliens.
