Minnesota produces more news than can be consumed locally. From the U.K. Daily Mail,
Former Obama staffer accused of stealing from colleagues to fund drug habit.
The Daily Mail reports,
Adam Fetcher, 42, was let go from his role as Chief Communications Officer for the City of Minneapolis last week amid a police probe, The Minnesota Star Tribune reported.
According to the outlet, Fetcher, who earned $186,495 a year in his role, is accused of stealing cash and credit cards from three of his colleagues and racking up fraudulent charges in smoke shops.
C’mon, man,
Sources told the outlet that Fetcher would steal from colleagues’ desks and purses to fund his habit even after returning from a work-approved rehab stint earlier this year.
Insiders also said that he was caught on surveillance footage using one of the stolen cards to buy Kratom, a substance which is used to manage opioid withdrawal.
An interesting detail,
On July 1, Fetcher was fired by City Operations Officer Margaret Anderson Kelliher who informed staff of a change in leadership that same day.
At one time, Kelliher (D) served as the Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives. As city spokesperson, Fetcher worked for Mayor Jacob Frey (D).
Curiously, neither the name Frey nor the word Democrat appears in the Daily Mail article. The underlying Star Tribune story does note that,
Mayor Jacob Frey tapped Fetcher, a Carleton College graduate and former deputy press secretary under President Barack Obama, to become the city’s first Chief Communications Officer in July 2025.
Again, the word “Democrat” does not appear in the Star Tribune story, even though every elected official mentioned–including Pres. Obama and county prosecutor Mary Moriarty–is a Democrat.
Had Fetcher been a Republican, that fact would have been noted in the headline and the story would have appeared in the New York Times and the Washington Post. Instead, readers have to make do with coverage in the New York Post and the Washington Examiner.
All the news that’s fit to print.
