Professor Yossi Sheffi is the author of the book Unsafe At MIT: A Chronicle of a Campus War on the Jews. The book was published a week ago. When I first read about it, I wrote Washington Free Beacon deputy editor Vic Matus to ask if he had assigned it for review — I wondered if the book was worth buying. Vic wrote me back that he thought the book looked interesting and was having a copy sent to me for review. I read it upon receipt and submitted my draft of the review to Vic yesterday. If everything works out, it will be placed in line for publication on a Sunday in August.
The book recounts the experience of American and Israeli Jews at MIT — undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdocs and faculty– mostly during the 2023-2024 school year in the aftermath of the October 7 massacre. Professor Sheffi is himself a prominent member of the MIT faculty and a renowned expert in supply chains and logistics, on which he is the author of nine books.
Professor Sheffi’s tenth book is a departure. It is one of the most disturbing books I have ever read. I think it is an important book. I want to bring it to the attention of Power Line readers who may be interested in the subject.
Will Sussman’s story is one of those Professor Sheffi tells in the course of the book’s narrative. The Amazon link is here.
A federal judge ruled that what happened to me at MIT was “deeply troubling” and “culminated in Sussman dropping out of his PhD program because of safety concerns.”

The New York Times covered the book prior to its publication in an interesting story by higher education reporter Mark Arsenault. I discuss Arsenault’s story briefly in my draft of the review.
Arsenault’s interest in the book is suggestive of public interest in the subject, and yet the book was self-published by Professor Sheffi, as stated in the story. (Amazon attributes publication to Transoft Inc.) In the Times story Professor Sheffi asserts that MIT administrators are denying him access to funds to promote the book. Why it wasn’t published by a commercial publisher or a university press is beyond me.
