The Kamala Harris parody in Steve’s recent post scored millions of views and also got a rise out of California Gov. Gavin Newsom. “Manipulating a voice in an ‘ad’ like this one should be illegal,” Newsom posted. “I’ll be signing a bill in a matter of weeks to make sure it is.” For California’s coiffed governor, this is not a new development.
Back in 2019, a video of his one-time aunt Nancy Pelosi appearing to be drunk prompted Newsom to sign a bill banning so-called “deep fake” videos within 60 days of an election. Newsom signed the measure despite opposition from the ACLU, which said it would lead to “repression of free speech.” So will any measure Newsom signs to block videos like the Harris parody, a satire easily detected by obscure Ozark morons.
Like his idol Jerry Brown, the old-money governor is an astronaut of arrogance, shrink-wrapped in statist superstition. Newsom’s evangelism for trans ideology recalls Jay Leno’s take on the circus, packed with “hermaphrodite clowns throwing anthrax spores at the children.” An economic crackpot, Newsom supported the Stalinist Assembly Bill 5, a virtual declaration against the independence of workers, from freelance writers, photographers, videographers and musicians to rideshare drivers. As David Horowitz explains, inside every progressive is a totalitarian screaming to get out. With his latest attack on free speech, Newsom outs himself as a full-blown totalitarian.
Satirists in all mediums should feel free to produce more videos on Kamala Harris, perhaps as an exotic dancer, with Newsom, Biden, Buttigieg and Pelosi tucking $100 bills into her G-string. Or have Kamala crooning “Hot Stuff” as she boogies with Willie Brown, perhaps in a walker. Cartoonists should not neglect Harris’ resemblance to those Easter Island stone statutes, a match for her heart. As Stanley Kowalski (Marlon Brando) told Blanche DuBois (Vivian Leigh) in A Streetcar Named Desire, “I say HA! HA! HA!” And as Terry Malloy told mobster Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb) in On the Waterfront, “I’m glad what I done to you, YOU HEAR THAT? And I’m gonna keep on doing it.” And don’t forget the governor his own self.
Newsom claims he went to college on a “partial baseball scholarship.” Compose a video of Newsom imitating Chico Escuela (Garrett Morris) saying “base-a-ball has been very very good to me.” With Gavin and Kamala the possibilities are truly endless. You have the talent. You have the technology. Get busy with the satire while you still can.
