10/7 a year later

Our friends at Tikvah deem this the most consequential year in modern Jewish history. They refer, of course, to the invasion of Israel by Hamas this past October 7 and the related events since then.

Well, since then…as has frequently been noted by the Israelis, they have been fighting a war on seven fronts. On every front the intention of Israel’s enemies is to wipe it off the map. They aren’t subtle about it. They forthrightly proclaim that seek to finish the job begun by the Nazis. The job, of course, is “the Final Solution.” Indeed, on October 7, one could see the same blood lust that impelled the Nazis.

The immediate object of the war begun by Hamas was the elimination of Israel and the destruction of its people. Hezbollah joined in support on October 8. While firing on Israel with rockets and other munitions since then, Hezbollah has succeeded in depopulating northern Israel. Although Hamas remains problematic in Gaza, the IDF has turned its attention to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In Lebanon the IDF has exposed the same sort of set-up that Hamas established in Gaza. In case you may have missed it, here is a brief video.

The bombing campaign around Beirut has set off massive quantities of stores of explosives intended by Hezbollah for Israel. The videos are easily accessible on X. Again, in case you have missed them, here is one.

In the case of each of the fronts on which Israel fights, the Iranian regime is either the funder, the founder, or the thing itself. Apart from the regime, each is the instrument of the regime. Each, including especially the regime, is a mortal enemy of the United States. And yet the United States — the Obama/Biden/Harris continuum — is ambivalent at best.

President Obama entered into the JCPOA to legalize, protect, and perpetuate Iran’s nuclear program. President Biden himself has now instructed Israel to leave Iran’s nuclear facilities untouched. He has done so with the implicit threats intended to constrain Israel. Vice President Harris has done her best to stigmatize and embarrass Prime Minister Netanyahu. Both Biden and Harris have adopted Hamas propaganda as accustomed talking points. For Americans who understand the stakes and choose to to stand with Israel, this must be a most solemn anniversary.
