What’s Underground

China claims to have discovered the world’s largest deposit of gold:

China is claiming to have unearthed the largest gold deposit in the world — estimated to be worth more than $80 billion.

More than 1,000 tons of gold reserves and ore veins were allegedly discovered by geologists from the Hunan Provincial Geological Institute some 12 miles beneath the surface in China’s Pingjiang County, according to China state media.

The gold find is believed to be a whopping $83 billion.

That may shore up China’s fading economy for a while. But the point I want to make is that China’s newsmaking gold strike has less than one-tenth the value of the trillion dollars in undeveloped copper, nickel, platinum and other mineral resources that we have in northern Minnesota. These resources are undeveloped solely because liberals have blocked all efforts to mine them. You can get the facts here.

We Americans are so stupid that we are sitting on our own vast resources, while paying China exorbitant amounts for the same minerals, not only at a great financial cost but, more important, to the detriment of our national security.

We can only hope that the Trump administration will try to rectify this absurd situation.
