After last night

When President Biden turned 80 a while back I commented that he made 80 look like the new 100. See what I meant? Let us recognize a few winners of last night’s debate between Biden and Trump, in no particular order:

First, my cousin Dean Phillips. After unsuccessfully seeking some prominent Democrat to step forward, Dean himself chose to challenge Biden. He did it for the good of the country and gave up a secure congressional seat in the process. Having been trashed by Democrat colleagues and media mavens, he has maintained his self-respect and a clear conscience. Democrats, it didn’t have to be this way.

Second, RNC Research and its informative series of “deep fake” and “cheapfake” videos. This partisan X feed delivered the news that the Democrat/Media axis vehemently denied and disparaged. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre condemned the outlet and enlisted the media to follow up. Last night RNC Research took a well-deserved victory lap.

Third, the dogged team of reporters at the Washington Free Beacon. The Beacon is now in the third season of its long-running Senior Moment of the Week series. Below is the June 22 edition (“Volume 99”). The Beacon observed: “If watching this video makes you think Joe Biden, 81, is too old and cognitively impaired to serve another four-year term as president, you’re most likely a victim of right-wing (or potentially Russian) propaganda. That’s the only possible explanation. Right?”

The Beacon deserves a Pulitzer Prize for reporting in the spirit of George Orwell: “To see what is in front of one’s nose needs a constant struggle. One thing that helps toward it is to keep a diary, or, at any rate, to keep some kind of record of one’s opinions about important events. Otherwise, when some particularly absurd belief is exploded by events, one may simply forget that one ever held it.”

Fourth, Wall Street Journal reporters Annie Linskey and Siobhan Hughes for their story earlier this month: “Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs of Slipping.” Their story was a tad tardy and obvious — why should Biden be sharper behind closed doors than he is every day in public? They nevertheless took the obligatory grief for their story.

Fifth, Donald Trump was a winner. Vox populi, vox dei.

CNN exceeded expectations, but it was not a winner. Biden escaped without a question on the laptop from hell or the Biden family business. In October 2020 Biden got away with describing the New York Post reporting on the laptop as “garbage” courtesy of the Deep State 51. It certainly merited a query from the moderators last night. Instead, we got the nonexistent “climate crisis.”

As soon as Biden began speaking last night, the event raised the question whether Biden could make it to the end of the debate. He made it through in his accustomed style. Now, it seems to me, the question is whether Biden can finish out his term in office. A second term should be ruled out. He patently lacks “the necessities.” The enemies of the United States are considering the possibilities.

What is Biden to do now, when the Democrat/Media Complex is abandoning him in light of his performance last night? He is to hang in there. He likes being King. Dr. Jill likes being Queen. He’s a stubborn kind of fellow. Is it unreasonable to foresee that they will rally once again to the cause of discouraging us from seeing what is in front of our nose when the members of the Democrat/Media Complex conclude they have no alternative?
