Funny, you don’t look bluish

I think it was Erich Segal who added the line spoken by one of the Blue Meanies to Ringo in the film Yellow Submarine: “Funny, you don’t look bluish.” President Trump took up a variation of the theme while discoursing on Vice President Harris’s ethnicity before the National Association of Black Journalists yesterday in Chicago. I have posted full video of his appearance at the bottom.

Trump said he knew Harris as Indian before she turned black. There might even be something to it. But it’s not a conversation that can help Trump.

President Trump was poorly treated by the NABJ. The disrespect and hostility were patent. As far as I am concerned, that was “the elephant in the room” with which Rachel Scott greeted Trump. The loaded questions were ridiculous. “Fact-checking in real time by PolitiFact” was farcical. He certainly deserved better but I trust he didn’t expect it. If not, he should have taken a hike.

Trump has not fully adjusted to running against Harris rather than Biden. The Dems have pulled a switcheroo that resets the campaign and drastically foreshortens it. It’s not fair. Trump appears to be seething about it and I don’t blame him.

The campaign against Harris calls for a new game plan. The new plan requires a disciplined focus on Harris’s record and positions. They are unpopular and indefensible. Everything else is a distraction that serves his current opponent. That’s just the way it is.
