Robert Gover wrote the cult classic One Hundred Dollar Misunderstanding. It may have been cutting-edge in 1961, when it was published, but not for long. Indeed, Hunter Biden’s misadventures have taken reality far beyond Gover’s satire. However, I have found Gover’s title an irresistible source of headlines for comments on the news. Here we go again.
The Harris presidential campaign reportedly raised and spent $1,000,000,000 in the course of its short life. Gabe Kaminsky tells the story in the Washington Examiner story “How Kamala Harris plowed through $1 billion.”
More precisely, the campaign reportedly spent some $20,000,000 more than that on swing-state celebrity concerts that left the campaign in the red, as we used quaintly to put it. The New York Post reports: “Members of the defeated Harris team tell The Post that the concerts had a ruinous effect on the Democratic campaign’s coffers and that fact was no secret — with one planned performance by ’90s alt-rock goddess Alanis Morissette getting scrapped to save money.” It might be ironic, in the Morissette sense, or it may actually be ironic. It is certainly funny in a Laughter Is the Best Medicine sense.
Dem fundraiser Lindy Li describes the campaign as an epic disaster. The New York Post adds some poignant details in this story. I prefer to think of it as a billion dollar misunderstanding.
The reported financial difficulties have afforded President Trump an opportunity to display his magnanimity in the tweet below. Again, President Trump’s tweet may be ironic, in the Morrissette sense. It is certainly funny in a Laughter Is the Best Medicine sense.
