When they liberated Germany, the armed forces of the United States rescued Barbara Makuch’s mother and father from the clutches of the Nazis. For such past and present humanitarian acts and for the sacrifice that accompanied them, Makuch says thanks. In doing so, she speaks for us: “To America’s soldiers.”
On a slightly less uplifting note the New York Post also speaks for us in responding to President Chirac’s demand for French participation in postwar Iraq. The Post’s editorial formulates the appropriate response very concisely: “Frankly, they can stuff it.” The editorial headline suggests a horror movie sequel: “THEY’RE BAAAAAACK!”
