Dylan in the tradition

Last Sunday’s Los Angeles Times carried at least one worthwhile article, Robert Hilburn’s terrific account of his long interview with Bob Dylan on the subject of Dylan’s songwriting: “Rock’s enigmatic poet opens a long-private door.”
Dylan fans like me won’t be surprised by the tribute Dylan pays to Woody Guthrie, but I was a little taken aback by the critical role in his songwriting that Dylan attributes to Bob Nolan’s “Tumbling Tumbleweeds.” An even biggger surprise awaits fans of Dylan’s craft who make it to the end of the piece. Say what you will about him, you can’t say the guy lacks a sense of humor!
