James Taranto notes that the investigation by a special prosecutor of allegations that Bush administration officials illegally revealed the identity of a “covert CIA operative” (Valerie Plame) is all but over. The investigation is ending with a wimper — complaints by many of those who demanded it that the prosecutor wants to compel testimony by reporters — not a bang, and probably not an indictment according to the Washington Post. Tananto wonders why we’re not hearing from the likes of Joshua Marshall, Paul Krugman, and David Corn who “on Joe Wilson’s say-so worked themselves up into such a lather a year and a half ago, over the ‘unpatriotic’ administration officials who had ‘jeopardized national security’ by ‘outing’ a ‘secret agent'”
