Blaming Bush?

“Poll: More Americans blame Bush for 9/11.” That’s CNN’s headline. But, as Blog of the Week Riehl World View shows, the numbers in the poll don’t support the headline or the story’s theme. Actually, there is no statistically significant change in the percentage who blame Bush from June 2004, shortly before Bush was re-elected, to the present. The percentages are up some since 2002, but that obviously reflects the partisan hysteria that has overtaken the left since then. The same minority, more or less, who now blame the President for September 11 blame him for everything else that goes wrong in the world, up to and including bad weather.

A reasonable headline might have been: “No change in percentages blaming Clinton, Bush for September 11.” But that wouldn’t have been much of a story, would it?
