How quickly they remember

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds that President Obama’s job approval has fallen to 42 percent, a new low in this survey. 51 percent of respondents disapprove of his performance.

Earlier this month, buoyed by the partial government shutdown for which Republicans took most of the blame, Obama’s approval rating stood at 47 percent. At the end of 2012, following his reelection, Obama had an approval rating of 52 percent.

As John said last night, when Obama is judged on his performance the results aren’t pretty for him. When he’s judged in comparison to Republicans with whom he’s in sharp conflict — i.e., Mitt Romney or Ted Cruz and the Tea Party faction — he fares better.
