Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz says that Israel made a “historic mistake” by not expelling Yasser Arafat from the West Bank, and that Israel may have to decide soon whether to expel him: “As for the future, I believe that we will need to address this matter in a relatively short space of time, very possibly even this year.”
I have no problem with expelling Arafat if it will do any good, but I’ve never understood how he will be much less able to direct violence from abroad than from his compound in Ramallah, where he has been confined for the last two years.
