From the mixed-up files of Ms. Neera Tanden

John found common ground with Neera Tanden, president of the left-wing think tank Center for American Progress. CAP coordinates closely with the Democratic Party, seeking to draw it ever further left. Speaking to friends like John Podesta via email, Tanden is a biting observer of the passing scene. In public, however, not so much.

At Heat Street Andrew Stiles finds another example in the latest WikiLeaks run through John Podesta’s email (screeshot at the link). Writing to Podesta, Tanden urges Podesta to help Clinton in her struggle to impersonate an authentic human being:

Hillary Clinton is dishonest and robotic, her friend Neera Tanden wrote in an email to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta in August 2015.

In the email exchange, published by WikiLeaks on Friday, Tanden wrote that Hillary “often says she absolutely won’t do something and then does it.” It is not clear from the context of the email what specifically Tanden was referring to.

Tanden…urged Podesta to “stay on her” and “lock her in,” because if he did, “eventually [Hillary] will sound like a human.”

In a related post, Stiles quotes from another email that shows the limits of Tanden’s perception. In the email Tanden complained that at times Clinton came off as “politically craven at best or a liar at worst.” Clinton is at her worst, in this sense, just about all the time and not just on account of political trimming. She’s in the Lillian Hellman sweepstakes in which every word she says is a lie, including “and” and “the.”
