American liberals have long yearned to follow the Europeans into the nirvana of socialized medicine. But they recognize that U.S. voters are not yet “ready” to go the full Monty. So they have taken incremental steps, taking over more and more of what once was a private health care system, while waiting for the inevitable dawn of socialized medicine.
Nancy Pelosi claims that she doesn’t favor socialized medicine, and has rejected calls to make “single payer,” the Democrats’ favorite euphemism, part of her party’s 2018 campaign. But last Wednesday Keith Ellison, Deputy Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, revealed to a group of party faithful in Minneapolis that it’s all a sham. Pelosi “actually likes the concept.”
The Daily Caller obtained the video; here it is. I especially like the part where Ellison asks, “Is anybody taping me right now?”
Actually, I don’t think the Democrats need to be circumspect. Their secret is out. Many believe that Obamacare was designed to crater, so that Democrats could argue that, a “market-based” solution having failed, there is no alternative to socialism. Because it works so well everywhere else, apparently. I don’t know whether that theory is true or not, but, given the inherent defects in Obamacare with which we have all become familiar, it is certainly plausible.
