This remarkable op-ed column from today’s New York Times by CNN’s “chief news executive” is worthy of much comment and reflection. Offhand, it strikes me as reporting an episode that will live in journalistic infamy along with New York Times reporter Walter Duranty’s Pulitizer Prize-winning cover-up of Stalin’s terror famine in the 1930’s. Submitted for your consideration: “The news we kept to ourselves.”
For comparative purposes, here is a link to Andrew Stuttaford’s excellent National Review Online column summarizing the Duranty episode: “The paper of record.”
