President Bush was in Minnesota today and delivered a speech, mainly on the economy, at Micro Control Inc. in Fridley, a Minneapolis suburb. The Minneapolis Star Tribune’s report naturally emphasizes the mediocre performance of the economy during Bush’s tenure. But the crowd greeted the President enthusiastically.
Bush has made a remarkable number of visits to Minnesota in the last three years. He was introduced today by Minnesota’s Governor Tim Pawlenty, a rising star in the party; Pawlenty and Bush are shown below.
Pawlenty said that he asked President Bush why he comes to Minnesota so often, and Bush replied that it was his love of Spam that brings him back. In reality, of course, Bush knows that Minnesota is rapidly moving out of the Democratic column. He expects to carry Minnesota in 2004, along with a number of other traditionally Democratic states.
