Rep. David Obey said he is “sorry” that “he yelled” at the antiwar contingent with whom he had an unpleasant confrontation this morning. Obey blames the war, stating:
We are both frustrated, and that led us to have an argument that we never should have had. . . .This is just another example of how Americans have become needlessly and painfully divided on a war that I have opposed from the beginning and that the President should never have misled us into.
Peggy Noonan was closer to the mark a while back when she wrote that elected officials on both sides tend to dislike members of their party’s base, but liberal elected officials find them “barking mad.”
