Don’t leave it to Cleaver, part 17

In part 16, I noted that reader Greg Farrell had contacted McClatchy News investigative editor James Asher to offer his eyewitness testimony refuting the McClatchy story “Tea part protesters scream ‘nigger’ at black congressmen.” Asher indicated that he would call Farrell to follow up. Today Farrell provides this update:

It looks like my much anticipated telephone conversation with Mr. James Asher isn’t going to happen. When I last corresponded with you on Sunday, I told you I had left him my cell phone number and he said he was going to call me. I had tried his cell phone and got no answer but I did leave a message I was trying to get in touch with him and I would speak to him the next morning, which happened to be Monday. I wasn’t available to talk late in the day in that I work nights.
Later that afternoon I received an email from him stating he was away from his phone mowing his lawn and he would call me in an hour. I never received a call. In fact, I didn’t receive a call until 6:30 pm the next evening (Monday night).
He had left a message on my phone letting me know he called. I quickly returned the call while on my way to work and told him I couldn’t talk then, that it would have to be the next morning. He said “fine” and told me to leave a message if I didn’t get him.
The next morning (yesterday) at about 9:30 am I called his cell phone, He answered and told me to hang on for a second. After some ruffling in the background for about a minute he then proceeded to tell me he couldn’t talk because he was on his way to work but he would call me as soon as he got in.
At about 10:45am and no call yet I called his office number and got him. He said he was just about to call me and wanted to talk but it would have to be in about 15 minutes and rushed me off the phone. In my opinion he didn’t sound too happy that I called. Again that call never came.
Finally I went to sleep at about 1:00 pm because, as I said, I work nights. And as of now (7:00 am Wednesday morning) he still never called after saying he would call me back in 15 minutes at 10:45 am yesterday.

Farrell has given up on Asher. We’ll wrap up this series with a final post in the next day or two.
