Back In the Saddle

If you are a regular reader, you probably have noticed that I have been gone for a while. I was on vacation with my wife and the ever-dwindling cohort of children who are still at home and still get a spring break, which is to say, my youngest daughter. We left a week ago tonight and just returned home. Our vacation included two days with my brother in Charlotte, three days at a fabulous resort in South Carolina, and two days in Charleston. We had, as always, a wonderful time. I made this short video of a boat excursion we took on the May River, which is really a salt-water Atlantic Ocean inlet. The tree house was a highlight, and the dolphins are near the end:

And–speaking of saddles–my daughter and I went horseback riding; here we have just arrived back at the stable. Which, by the way, is cleaner than most of the apartments I lived in when I was single:

Since it was a vacation, I paid no attention to the news for a solid week. It was blissful. Since returning home, I have been reviewing the thousands of email messages that piled up while I was gone, and I can see already that the world has been going rapidly downhill. By tomorrow I should be ready to resume posting; but in the meantime, if you haven’t recently gone for a week without newspapers, internet or television, I highly recommend it.
