Riots Drive Orioles Out of Baltimore

The Baltimore Orioles’ games Monday night and tonight were canceled because of riots near Camden Yards. Now, in one of the strangest announcements ever, the Orioles and Major League Baseball say that tomorrow night’s game will be moved to the afternoon and “closed to the public.” The game will be played without spectators; will it be televised? I don’t know. But it is hard to imagine anything much stranger.

Following tomorrow afternoon’s game, the Orioles will flee the city:

The Orioles will also play their three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, scheduled for May 1-3, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. while serving as the home team.

It seems that everywhere you look, the wheels are coming off.
