Biden Justice Department
April 6, 2023 — Scott Johnson

This morning’s New York Post column by Miranda Devine is ostensibly devoted to an update on Hunter Biden. When she gets around to Trump’s indictment on New York state charges she includes a nugget that was news to me: We are watching in real time as they interfere with another election — by trying to take out the GOP front-runner with flimsy allegations that he hid hush money to a

By reference to “MS.” I am reverting to my preferred euphemism for classified documents in the unauthorized possession of Joe Biden. In today’s installment of the saga we learn that the FBI has conducted two searches of the archives of Biden’s papers that the president has deposited at the University of Delaware under restrictive conditions. CNN reports: Investigators retrieved materials from two university locations on two different days. The material

Yesterday CBS News reported that the FBI searched the Penn Biden Center offices in mid-November, according to “two sources familiar with the investigation,” after lawyers for President Biden had found about 10 documents marked classified there on Nov. 2. It is not clear why the White House has not disclosed the search. It is not clear when the search occurred. It is not clear whether additional classified documents were seized.

As President Biden has thrown a lifeline to President Trump in the matter of possession of classified documents, former Vice President Mike Pence has thrown a lifeline to Biden. Lawyers representing Pence discovered “a small number of documents bearing classified markings that were inadvertently boxed and transported” to Pence’s new home in Carmel, Indiana. CNN reports on the discovery here, the AP here, the Wall Street Journal here. Pence attorney

Everything we know in the Biden classified documents matter derives from Biden’s attorneys. In other words, it is inherently unreliable. The existence of the matter was leaked by unidentified sources. Attorney General Garland has since publicly appointed a Special Counsel and more classified documents have been discovered in Biden’s Corvette garage and elsewhere. Mysteries abound. Yesterday the Wall Street Journal published a story explaining the role of Biden’s lawyers based

Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed a Special Counsel in the ongoing Trump criminal investigations undertaken by the Department. Garland appointed Jack Smith Special Counsel. The DoJ has posted Garland’s statement here. Garland discusses Smith’s background in his statement, but Politico’s Josh Gerstein and Kyle Cheney provide more details in their story on his appointment. This is the operative portion of Garland’s statement: Based on recent developments, including the former

Remember the hysteria over the classified documents that Donald Trump had in his basement at Mar-a-Lago? Remember the claim that the fugitive boxes contained “nuclear secrets” that Trump supposedly might sell to foreign adversaries? That was one of the dumbest theories of recent times, which is saying a lot. But now that the midterms are safely behind us, the Biden administration is leaking a different message: never mind. As usual,

The Hunter Biden case is not the Hunter Biden case. It’s the Joe Biden case. All the rest is the saga of a corrupt and degraded reprobate. Yesterday someone somewhere leaked to the Washington Post that the years-long investigation of Hunter may warrant a prosecution on tax and gun charges. He may even have to pay a fine. It is impossible to be too cynical about the Post story. Reading

United States Attorney Andrew Luger called a press conference to announce indictments in the massive Minnesota free lunch fraud that we have covered in the linked series of posts since that date back to this past January. At that time the FBI executed a search warrants and property seizures all over the Twin Cities. The fraud involved hundred of millions of federal tax dollars. It was massive, as I say,

The Biden Department of Justice follows a contemptible practice: when questioned by reporters, it declines to comment, and then leaks its preferred spin to friendly news outlets. DOJ/FBI is up to its old tricks with the latest leak to its mouthpiece, the Washington Post. DOJ is fighting a propaganda war over its raid on Donald Trump’s house, and so far it has not obviously been winning. Hence the current leak,

I wrote about the departure of FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office Timothy Thibault here yesterday. According to Miranda Devine’s New York Post column linked in that post, Thibault has been on leave since Senator Chuck Grassley raised inquiries concerning Thibault’s suppression of negative information about Hunter before the 2020 election. After I wrote yesterday, Thibault released a statement (below via Twitter) stating that he

Citing unnamed whistleblowers, Senator Chuck Grassley specifically called out FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office Timothy Thibault in his letter to Attorney General Garland and FBI Director Wray dated July 18, 2022. Senator Grassley posted the letter online here. Working the FBI public corruption beat, Thibault himself appears not be an entirely straight shooter. Miranda Devine put it this way at the bottom of her

It has been evident that the Biden Justice Department is out to get James O’Keefe and Project Veritas since O’Keefe et al. were raided last year under federal search warrants procured by the FBI. Although O’Keefe was instructed to remain mum, the authorities promptly leaked news of the raid to the New York Times. All this in the matter of Ashley Biden’s diary. We have followed the story in more

Yesterday, Donald Trump announced that during the Mar-a-Lago raid, FBI agents “stole” his three passports, one of which was expired. The Department of Justice initially tried to deny this claim, or at least weasel out of it. Via RedState: NEW: According to a DOJ official, the FBI is NOT in possession of former President Trump's passports. Trump had accused the FBI of stealing his three passports during the search of

Last night I was on the Bolt Report with host Andrew Bolt, on Australia’s Sky News. We talked about the FBI raid on Donald Trump’s house, the insane responses thereto by people like Michael Hayden, and related matters. I think it is fair to say that the conversation was hard-hitting, but entertaining. This is the segment. It is around 7 1/2 minutes long:

In his fatuous four-minute public statement on Thursday, Attorney General Merrick Garland spoke up to defend the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago. The Department of Justice has posted the transcript of Garland’s remarks here. At NRO, John Yoo and Robert Delahunty respond in the column “Why the Public Is Skeptical of Garland’s Mar-a-Lago Story.” They offer “four legitimate reasons Americans think something crassly political has just transpired.” They speak from experience
