David Forte of the Ashbrook Center provides perhaps the most informative and balanced assessment of the situation in Iraq that I have come across. Forte comes down in favor of increasing our troop commitment. This has become the majority position among conservative commentators, as one mght expect. I have been pretty much on the fence about this issue until now, and Rocket Man, if I recall correctly, has taken the view that more troops would do little good. However, if Al Qaeda types are seeping into Iraq in appreciable numbers, the case for more troops becomes stronger — they would enable us to fight these new adversaries and limit additional infiltration, without requiring us to diminish our other efforts.
