The Spreading Virus, Amherst Update

UPDATE to the UPDATE: It turns out that @AmherstUprising is apparently a parody Twitter account! I know what you’re thinking: how can you tell? It has, as Stephen Colbert would say, a sense of “truthiness” about it. Well done, whoever you are.

The student movement does call itself “Amherst Uprising,” but their “official” Twitter feed is @UprisingAmherst. (Or is it authentic? Perhaps it’s the Judean People’s Front against the People’s Front of Judea all over again. In any case, @AmherstRising has more followers. Heh.) And they are none to happy about being punked:

Yes, I believe these spaces were once called “classrooms.”

Now back to the original post:

We noted Thursday that Amherst was falling under the Mizzou fever, and if you want to follow the ongoing meltdown in real time, there is an AmherstUprising Twitter feed you can follow. As I write, it appears Amherst students are going try to disrupt today’s home football game, having failed to occupy the library because it is closed. (The fact that they were apparently surprised that the library is closed on a home football Saturday perhaps indicates the study habits of the student protesters.) It also appears that the Amherst athletic department is made of sterner stuff that Missouri’s. How about Amherst’s President Martin? We’ll see.

Here are a few of my favorites from @AmherstRising this morning:

JOHN adds: OMG, that is hilarious! If I were there, I would chase after these people with a terrifying image of the Lord Jeff mascot, like garlic before a vampire:
