When I visited Hillsdale College for its Spring Convocation in April, I had a ball at dinner with Imprimis editor Doug Jeffrey, his gracious wife Terry, and Hillsdale Professor Mickey Craig of No Left Turns. Both Doug and I are fans of singer/songwriter John Prine. We talked about Prine’s then upcoming show in Ann Arbor, which Doug was planning on attending.
Today’s Washington Post has an excellent, long profile of Prine by Richard Harrington: “Vox populi.” Harrington mentions an evening devoted to a conversation with Prine at the Library of Congress earlier this year, noting that the “nation’s poet laureate honored Prine in March in the Library of Congress’s historic Coolidge Auditorium. It wasn’t a concert, like the one Prine will perform at the Warner Theatre tonight, but a two-man conversation in story and song.”
Harrington adds that “the Prine-Kooser encounter, all 83 minutes of it, was up on the library’s Web site within days and remains its most popular Webcast, with almost 3,000 visits — double the number of any of the library’s 400 other Webcasts.” The Post article, however, does not link to the Webcast, which is available here.
UPDATE: I should add that Prine is of course a horse’s ass when he addresses current political issues.
